At the beginning of this course, I was brimming with fear over the idea of completing an action research. I do not believe I even knew what AR meant at the time. The concepts and principals that I will take with me are making sure that I do everything ethically when dealing with my students because that assignment helped me to realize when dealing with people you must consider their feelings and all facets of who they are. I believe that goes hand in hand with being a teacher. We are social workers, advocates, teachers, psychologists and so much more so making sure to treat everyone with self-respect and dignity is essential. I also think that if there is something I am trying to improve on or help my students mixed data collection is the best way to go to get the information and data needed. Now after going through these six weeks, I am so much more confident and understand the process. I appreciate how each section was broken down step by step so that it was easier to understand. I perceive the qualitative data deals more with data collected observation and interview information dealing with human behavior. Quantitative data deals with data collected through measuring things with numerical or statistical information both items are needed to fully understand the information collected to prove the point of what you are trying to imply with your research. The reason for using both methods is to gain a deeper insight in what you are researching. I plan to use the information I learned in this course to show others that simple AR plans are possible and even if it is something small you are trying to research with the right tools and breaking things down you can get the information you are needing. This course has been beneficial in assisting me to understand why I am doing something and what is the reason behind what I said and the data I collected from the information I presented. My next step in my classroom setting is to try to do a small action research project with my co-teacher to see what we can come up with to improve our classroom for the students. The obstacles that will be present are time which is always a factor and getting approval from administrators to do the research on the students. I think that once we have our information together as to why we are proposing to do an AR in the classroom to improve something for the students the administrators will be more prone to listen and go along with the research. I can honestly say that before this class I would’ve never considered doing an AR plan, but now I see that everything is broken down into steps which make it a lot easier to understand and break down in small increments. I will be a new teacher this coming school year, but if I see a process or something that I need to change for my students, I will be the one to suggest change through conducting AR. I believe it is all about your approach and the data that you present to get approval to the research. I want to get in the classroom and see what I can do to make things better for the teachers and students, and if that means going above and beyond by suggesting AR plan, then that is what I will do.
